- If you stick to one brand of jeans, and one size, there are minute differences in the fit in every batch of your size; good jeans are hand cut and this can mean a 0.5 centimeter (0.2 in) difference in a seam here and there; so take a few pairs of the same size into the change room until you find YOUR pair! And if you need to lie on the floor to do the zip up, trust me, you need a bigger size! Muffin tops are so not a good look.

- On purchase, check with the sales assistant that you may exchange these jeans if they do not fit when you get home: explain you will get a bigger/smaller size on return to their wonderful and well stocked store (a bit of flattery goes a long way when jeans shopping...)
- On their first washing, turn inside out and wash ALONE in cold water; these may run like Usain Bolt on first wash and you do not want other items getting cross dye marks on. Machine washing is fine. Use delicate settings for your jeans as they last longer this way.
