We all know that as the Thanksgiving season arrives, we are running around looking for ingredients for all of our favorite recipes, cleaning the house for company, or setting travel plans to visit family. All while somewhat cheating on Thanksgiving as we wander the isles looking at all the beautiful Christmas tree’s, lights, garland and ornaments. Some of us may already even have that tree sitting in the front windows. I know for me personally, I always strive for perfection and then drag myself into the ground trying to achieve a Pinterest worthy home. With all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it brings me to the question, why not simplify?
Elegant, Simple Thanksgiving Table Settings
That is why this year, I’m really taking the time to think less about how perfect everything needs to be for Thanksgiving, and more on what I’m really thankful for during this beautiful time of year. As I pondered ways to do this, I thought about the things that stress me out the most. One place that always seems to be a source of stress, is my incessant need to have the perfect Thanksgiving table setting. For those of you who know me, you know that decorating my table, is one of my favorite things that I do year round. So, this year, I decided that that was one of the places that I was going to scale back. By doing this, I realized there was something so beautiful about it’s simple elegance. Here are my tips for setting a Thanksgiving table.
I started with place mats from Pier 1 Imports, on sale for $3.16 each. I picked something super simple and neutral. My table is smaller, so I went with round ones to maximize my space.
From there, I decided to use white plates and then a smaller decorative plate that I picked up at “At Home”. For those of you who do not have an “At Home” close by, you could easily find similar things at Target, TJ Max and Marshalls for very reasonable prices.
I then topped the plates off by adding a cute pumpkin to the top center plate to bring in that simple elegance that I was looking for.
After getting the plate settings, I wanted a really beautiful center piece that was simple and could stay up through the entire fall season, not just Thanksgiving week, so I went with dried wheat. I love the texture of dried wheat and the texture that it brought to the center of the table.
Last but least, I went on the search for goblets. I looked all over the place and low and behold, found the perfect set at Wal-Mart, designed by the Pioneer Women Line. As a side note, all of The Pioneer Women’s dishes are amazing and affordable. Next time you are at Wal-Mart, check them out, because you will not be disappointed. After bringing home my goblets, the table finally felt complete.
It not only was a table setting that I could have up throughout October and November but it was also perfect for Thanksgiving dinner. All I need to do now, is add silverware and napkins the day of and possibly some placecards. I hope you find these tips for setting a Thanksgiving table helpful.
As this Holiday season approaches, I leave a message of simplicity with you. Remember what’s really important and allow yourself the space to breath. At the end of the day, its not about the perfect recipe or the perfect simple Thanksgiving table settings, its about family and loved ones and the simplicity that brings us all together.
